Emergency management coordinators with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRVFPD) are calling on San Ramon, Dougherty Valley, and Tassajara hills residents to complete dual winter storm and earthquake readiness checks this week. Issued from district headquarters at 1500 Bollinger Canyon Road in October 2026, the seasonal preparedness bulletin arrives just days after the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a minor magnitude 2.4 earthquake along the Calaveras Fault system near San Ramon on Monday afternoon, October 19.
While Monday's light seismic jolts produced no structural damage or emergency medical calls across San Ramon's nine fire station response zones, Battalion Chiefs and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) instructors noted that the tremor served as a timely reminder to secure water heaters, anchor tall bookshelves, and refresh 72-hour household emergency supply kits. Fire officials emphasized that overlapping autumn hazards—ranging from Calaveras Fault seismic activity to early November atmospheric river rainbands—require proactive household planning before severe weather arrives.
In coordination with the City of San Ramon Public Works Department, fire district inspectors urged homeowners bordering open-space hillsides in Westside San Ramon, Gale Ranch, and Windemere to clear fallen autumn leaves and sediment from private concrete V-ditches and backyard drainage swales. Keeping hillside runoff channels unobstructed prevents localized street flooding and mudflows along Bollinger Canyon Road, Crow Canyon Road, and Alcosta Boulevard during heavy downpours.
Residents are also encouraged to verify that cell phones and landlines are enrolled in the Contra Costa County Community Warning System (CWS) and the PulsePoint emergency notification app. Detailed household preparedness checklists, sandbag distribution locations, and upcoming San Ramon CERT training schedules are available online at firedepartment.org or by calling (925) 838-6600.
