The City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department energized new shielded LED court luminaires and perimeter acoustic panels on Friday afternoon across the outdoor pickleball complex at San Ramon Central Park at 12501 Alcosta Boulevard near Bollinger Canyon Road. Approved by the San Ramon Parks and Community Services Commission as part of the 2026 Court Facilities Enhancement Program, the $245,000 project installs sixteen precision-aimed 4,000-Kelvin LED fixtures mounted on twenty-two-foot tapered steel poles. By replacing aging metal-halide floodlights with full-cutoff optics, the upgrade eliminates upward skyglow into adjacent residential neighborhoods while increasing uniform court surface visibility by 35 percent.
To ensure electricity is only consumed when courts are actively occupied, electrical contractors wired each bank of four courts to user-activated push-button timers mounted alongside the entrance gates. Players can trigger forty-five-minute illumination cycles starting thirty minutes before sunset until the automated 9:30 PM municipal park curfew cutoff, with a five-minute amber warning flash alerting athletes before lights extinguish.
Along the northern and eastern perimeter fences facing Bollinger Canyon Road, maintenance crews also hung high-density mass-loaded vinyl acoustic blanketing rated to absorb up to 11 decibels of paddle-strike sound. New shaded player waiting benches, paddle-queuing racks for drop-in rotation, and a chilled bottle-filling station were installed along the central promenade connecting to the San Ramon Community Center.
Funding for the $245,000 court modernization came from San Ramon's Capital Improvement Program Park Development Fund paired with a $40,000 municipal energy-efficiency rebate from Pacific Gas and Electric. Residents can view drop-in rotation hours, reserve instructional clinic courts, or register for winter doubles ladders online through the San Ramon Recreation Guide or at the Central Park Community Center desk.
