South Bay professional soccer and collegiate football teams delivered milestone results this weekend as San Jose Earthquakes forward Preston Judd scored a 70th-minute equalizer to extend the club's unbeaten streak to nine matches in a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC, while San Jose State defeated UTEP 24-11. With the hard-earned point at PayPal Park along Coleman Avenue, the Earthquakes (13-8-9) hold fourth place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference with four regular-season matches remaining. Supporters traveling from San Ramon, Danville, Pleasanton, Oakland, and San Jose applauded the late comeback against the Eastern Conference leaders.

Nashville SC (20-3-7) opened the scoring in the 34th minute when attacking midfielder Hany Mukhtar converted an unassisted strike past the San Jose back line. Refusing to yield after intermission, the Earthquakes pressed high up the pitch until Judd rose inside the penalty box in the 70th minute to power home a header for his 16th goal of the 2026 campaign. Technical staff officials noted that holding a 20-win opponent to a single goal demonstrates the defensive discipline San Jose needs for the upcoming MLS Cup playoffs.

Meanwhile in college football action, San Jose State University improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West Conference play behind a commanding ground performance from running back Viliami Teu in a 24-11 victory over UTEP (1-6, 0-3). Teu rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Spartans, while quarterback Daniel Rolovich completed passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Carson Clark hauled in five receptions for 104 yards and a score before UTEP's Nik Henry recorded the Miners' lone touchdown on an 8-yard run with 10:52 left in the fourth quarter.

Across San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Danville, youth soccer club directors and high school athletics commission coaches highlighted Judd's aerial timing and Rolovich's pocket poise during weekend training clinics. San Ramon native and former San Marin High standout Daniel Rolovich continues to draw strong East Bay family followings as the Spartans contend in the Mountain West race. Municipal recreation department boards also announced $30 youth group ticket partnerships for upcoming autumn matches in San Jose.
