Tech-enabled maternity care startup Millie and Peninsula hospital system El Camino Health have announced plans to open a co-branded, midwife-led outpatient maternity clinic in Palo Alto in December 2026. Located at 4300 El Camino Real, Suite 201, the collaborative facility represents the first site in a multi-clinic expansion planned across Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, as reported by Healthcare Innovation. Each health system official noted that the partnership integrates certified nurse-midwives with board-certified obstetricians to provide continuous prenatal, birthing, and postpartum care.

The Peninsula expansion builds upon Millie's existing clinical footprint in Berkeley and San Francisco, plus its integration earlier in 2026 into UCSF Health's clinically integrated network serving families in the East Bay. Through that UCSF Health network alignment, expectant parents in Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Danville, and Oakland can connect Millie's midwifery care model with UCSF specialists in the East Bay. Meanwhile, Peninsula patients visiting the Palo Alto clinic will deliver at El Camino Health's Mountain View hospital, which delivered 4,761 babies in 2023 and is recognized on Newsweek's list of America's Best Maternity Hospitals.

Millie founder Anu Sharma noted in Healthcare Innovation's report that 75 to 80 percent of United States pregnancies are low risk, 10 to 15 percent are moderate risk, and 5 to 10 percent are high risk. By pairing patients with collaborative midwifery care, remote monitoring, and postpartum navigation, Millie says its clinical program delivers actuarial savings of 12 to 14 percent. Families across Santa Clara and Contra Costa County communities have increasingly sought outpatient maternity options that improve maternal outcomes.

Independent midwifery practice in California gained statutory backing under Senate Bill 1237, enacted in 2020 and highlighted by the California Nurse-Midwives Association, which took effect on January 1, 2021. That law authorized certified nurse-midwives in the state to practice independently and attend low-risk pregnancies without physician supervision, enabling every local hospital district and public health department to expand community birthing access. The El Camino Healthcare District board and county maternal health commission praised the joint venture and its sustainable funding model.

Expectant parents and referring clinicians can review insurance eligibility, clinic tour dates, and prenatal registration details for the December 2026 opening at millieclinic.com or elcaminohealth.org. Inquiries regarding maternal care coordination at 4300 El Camino Real, Suite 201, or East Bay appointments may be directed to patient navigation staff at (650) 940-7000. Additional Silicon Valley clinic locations and community prenatal workshops will be announced by the joint governance committee in early 2027.
