Las Positas College Theater Department Presents Stranger Sings! Parody Musical at Black Box Theater
Eight-performance autumn run in Livermore brings 1980s synth-pop nostalgia, neon lights, and dancing Demogorgons to the stage.

The Las Positas College Theater Department will bring upbeat 1980s nostalgia and sci-fi comedy to the Tri-Valley stage this Halloween season with an eight-performance production of "Stranger Sings: The Parody Musical" at the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts Black Box Theater in Livermore. Running over two consecutive weekends in late October and early November at 3000 Campus Hill Drive, the off-Broadway hit is an adult-oriented musical spoof of the popular science-fiction series "Stranger Things." Theatergoers from Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Danville are invited to experience the intimate cabaret-style staging.
Packed with high-energy synth-pop tunes, glowing neon lights, irreverent humor, dancing Demogorgons, and heightened 1980s teenage angst, the musical parody reimagines the supernatural mysteries of Hawkins, Indiana, through sharp comedic choreography and vocal ensemble numbers. Production Director Vinh Nguyen noted that student actors, technical stagehands, and costume designers have spent weeks crafting the retro theatrical atmosphere. Nguyen said the musical lovingly pokes fun at the popular television show while cranking up the nostalgia dial of the 1980s to the max.
To accommodate Halloween weekend revellers and autumn matinee audiences across Alameda and Contra Costa counties, the theater department scheduled five evening performances and three afternoon matinees. Evening curtain times are set for 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 29; Friday, October 30; Saturday, October 31; Friday, November 6; and Saturday, November 7. Afternoon matinee performances will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 1; Saturday, November 7; and Sunday, November 8 inside the Mertes Center Black Box Theater.
Chabot-Las Positas Community College District arts board officials and theater faculty emphasized that staging contemporary off-Broadway musical comedies provides invaluable hands-on training in lighting design, live sound mixing, and comedic timing for local performing arts students. General admission tickets are priced at $20, with discounted seating tiers available for students and senior citizens, making live collegiate theater an affordable autumn outing for Tri-Valley residents.
Audience members can reserve seats in advance online at lpc.ludus.com, purchase tickets at the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts box office door prior to showtime, or call the Las Positas College campus information desk at (925) 424-1000. Because the parody contains irreverent humor and adult-oriented comedic themes, parental discretion is advised for younger viewers. Campus parking lots off Campus Hill Drive in Livermore are adjacent to Building 4000.
