Water operations engineers with the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) and the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) have completed their late-October seasonal irrigation curtailment and pressure-testing cycle across San Ramon's tertiary-treated recycled water network. Managed through the joint DSRSD–EBMUD Recycled Water Authority (DERWA) program, the distinctive "purple-pipe" distribution backbone supplies drought-resilient irrigation water to forty-eight City of San Ramon parks, San Ramon Valley Unified School District athletic fields, and commercial greenbelts along Bollinger Canyon Road and Crow Canyon Road.
As October daytime temperatures cool and evapotranspiration rates drop across the San Ramon Valley, municipal park maintenance supervisors and DERWA telemetry technicians dial back automated smart-controller watering schedules at Central Park, Rancho San Ramon Community Park, Athan Downs, and Gale Ranch neighborhood greenways. Shifting large turf and median landscapes off imported Sierra Nevada and Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta drinking water saves more than 1.2 billion gallons of potable water across the Tri-Valley each year.
During the October 2026 operational review presented to the DERWA Board of Directors, plant engineers at the Jeffrey G. Hansen Water Recycling Plant confirmed that ultraviolet disinfection and sand-filtration trains met 100 percent of California Title 22 water-quality standards throughout the peak summer demand season. Autumn maintenance crews are now flushing lateral distribution valves, auditing backflow-prevention assemblies, and calibrating soil-moisture sensors ahead of November rainstorms.
San Ramon homeowners are reminded to reduce residential backyard sprinkler timers by at least 50 percent during late October and turn irrigation systems off completely for forty-eight hours following measurable rainfall.
