Parks and maintenance supervisors with the City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department and neighborhood pet owners from the San Ramon Dog Park Volunteers dedicated a resurfaced 24,000-square-foot antimicrobial K9 synthetic-turf off-leash dog enclosure, a cedar agility obstacle course, and a solar pet hydration pavilion on Sunday afternoon at Bollinger Canyon Park at 2450 Bollinger Canyon Road in western San Ramon. Tucked beneath the wooded hills of the Bollinger Canyon corridor, the ten-acre neighborhood park is a daily social hub for hundreds of San Ramon dog owners, tennis players, and families.

Replacing compacted wood-chip and mud play yards that required multi-week winter rain closures, landscape contractors excavated twelve inches of clay soil and installed a high-permeability crushed-granite French drain base topped with short-pile knitted polyethylene K9 grass. Infilled with natural zeolite crystals that neutralize ammonia odors and drain rainwater at forty inches per hour, the mud-free surface is divided into dedicated enclosures for large dogs over thirty pounds and small or senior dogs.

Along the center of the main run, carpenters installed a six-piece canine agility circuit featuring a non-slip cedar A-frame climbing ramp, an elevated dog walk, adjustable hurdle bars, weave poles, and a shaded concrete cooling tunnel. A new 24-foot incense-cedar shade arbor topped with a 2.8-kilowatt solar array powers dusk motion lighting, a warm-water paw-rinse wand, and dual stainless-steel bottle and pet-bowl drinking fountains.

The $365,000 off-leash dog park modernization was approved by the San Ramon City Council through the Parks Capital Improvement Program. Residents can check park hours and off-leash guidelines on the City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Portal.
