Parks and recreation supervisors with the City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department and players from the San Ramon Pickleball and Tennis Advisory Committee cut the ribbon on Sunday afternoon on eight resurfaced cushioned pickleball and tennis courts equipped with perimeter acoustic sound-attenuation curtains and dark-sky LED lighting at Athan Downs Park at 2975 Montevideo Drive (at Davona Drive) in San Ramon. Spanning twenty-one acres in central San Ramon alongside the Iron Horse Regional Trail corridor, Athan Downs Park serves thousands of weekly youth and adult racquet athletes, joggers, and neighborhood families.

Replacing thirty-year-old asphalt courts that had developed root heaving and surface cracks, municipal contractors poured a laser-leveled post-tensioned concrete slab engineered to resist seasonal clay soil movement. Crews then applied a five-layer acrylic and rubber-granule cushioned tournament surface in high-contrast US Open blue and forest green that reduces knee and ankle impact shock by 28 percent compared with bare concrete.

To ensure peaceful coexistence with homes bordering Davona Drive and Montevideo Drive, installers hung twelve-foot-tall mass-loaded vinyl AcoustiFence sound-absorption curtains along the north and west chain-link perimeters. Acoustic field testing confirmed that the weighted barriers combined with USA Pickleball quiet-category foam-core paddle guidelines reduce off-site paddle pop decibels by more than 11 dBA at the nearest residential property line.

The $490,000 court reconstruction and noise-mitigation program was approved by the San Ramon City Council through the Parks Capital Improvement Program. Players can check drop-in open-play hours and court reservation policies on the City of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Portal.
